Le terme compétition désigne en général la rivalité entre des personnes ou des organisations.
La Compétition (biologie), en écologie et biologie, est la rivalité entre espèces vivantes pour l'accès aux ressource naturelle du Écosystème.
Une compétition sportive est une épreuve (partie (jeu), Match (sport)...) ou un ensemble d'épreuves (championnat, critérium (cyclisme), Coupe (trophée)...), dans un sport donné ; le terme compétition peut également s'appliquer à d'autres domaines (compétition d'échecs, de scrabble, etc,).
En économie, la compétition, plus couramment désignée par l'appellation Concurrence économique, est la rivalité entre les entreprises fournissant les mêmes biens ou services.
