aviation
L'aviation est une activité aérienne définie par l'ensemble des acteurs, technologies et règlements qui permettent d'utiliser un aéronef dans un but particulier. Ces diverses activités peuvent être classées en activités de sport et loisir, activités économiques et activités militaires.
Il existe d'autres activités aériennes telles que le parachutisme qui n'utilisent pas un aéronef en tant que tel mais se déroulent néanmoins dans les airs.
Le terme d'aviation a été inventé par l'écrivain et ancien officier de marine Guillaume Joseph Gabriel de La Landelle en 1863, à partir du verbe avier, lui-même dérivé du latin avis « oiseau », et du suffixe -ation. Le mot « avion » fut inventé par Clément Ader en 1903.
